MONTEGO BAY, St James — A number of retired cops and their spouses benefited from a health fair staged by the Association of Past Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Chapter One recently in Montego Bay.

The fair was held at St John’s Methodist Church hall under the auspices of a recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the association and the National Health Fund (NHF) last December.

More than 50 individuals received blood sugar and hypertension tests, cancer screening, nutrition-based guidance, among other services, according to chairman for the association Harris Daley.

“It came out of the MOU and being the partner with the NHF, and it’s really a launching of the many things that ought to take place during our two-year agreement,” he told the Jamaica Observer West during the event.

The agreement, under which the partnership was established, came into effect in February and will see the NHF providing direct health-care support for the retired cops.

The occasion also provided the opportunity for some to sign up or replace NHF cards.

The beneficiaries were from the four divisions served by the association –” St James, Trelawny, Hanover and Westmoreland.

“We have nurses here today and a doctor providing additional support for those that came today,” Harris said, adding that the members who turned up reacted “positively” to the services.

“I just spoke to a few of them a while ago and they say they are enjoying the day so far and plus, it’s an opportune time for them to know their numbers in regards to diabetes, the state of their health,” he said.
