Dominant Bygrave captures 1,500m at Carifta Trials
JAMAICA College’s (JC) Kemarrio Bygrave turned in a scintillating performance to win the Boys’ Under-20 1500m final on Friday’s opening day of the three-day Carifta Trials at the National Stadium.
Bygrave sat off the space for the first two laps of the race before outsprinting his rivals to win the event in 4:02.42 minutes.
KC’s Ainsley Campbell was second in 4:03.98, while third went to Yoshane Bowen from Maggotty 4:09.06.
Meanwhile, Jody-Ann Mitchell from Holmwood produced an excellent effort to outsprint Kishay Rowe of Alphansus Davis to win the Girls’ Under-20 1500m in 4:41.71. Rowe was second in 4:41.81 while third went to Rickeisha Simms of Edwin Allen in 4:42.21.
JC’s Rasheed Pryce captured the Boys’ Under-17 1,500m in 4:06.09 in front of Edwin Allen’s Joel Morgan (4:07.36). Bellefield’s Requelme Johnson was third in 4:09.14.
Kevongaye Fowler of Edwin Allen won the Under-17 1500m event with a time of 4:47.93. Kededra Coombs from St Jago was second in 4:49.39, while third went to Holmwood’s Jovi Rose in 4:51.73.
Michael Neil, competing unattached, won the Boys’ Under-17 high jump event with a leap of 1.88m, ahead of JC’s Javion Pladley 1.85m and Kijaun Williams of Calabar 1.80m.
Edwin Allen’s Dionjah Shaw captured the Girls’ Under-17 shot put event with a throw of 13.83m while Trevisha Parchment from Excelsior was second with a mark of 12.82m.
