JPL teams progress in Lynk Cup
ALL six Jamaica Premier League (JPL) teams advanced to the second round of the Lynk Cup knockout after the inaugural staging of the competition kicked off with eight games between Wednesday and Thursday.
Humble Lions, Molynes United, Portmore United, Montego Bay United, Tivoli Gardens, and Vere United won their first-round games while Falmouth United and Treasure Beach won their two all-Tier II matchups.
The eight first-round winners will meet eight other teams — Harbour View, Chapleton Maroons, Arnett Gardens, Waterhouse FC, Cavalier FC, Faulkland FC, Mt Pleasant and Dunbeholden FC — that had been given byes in the first round.
Vere United scored the biggest win of the round, thrashing Down FC 6-0 on Thursday, while Treasure Beach FC were 4-1 winners over Portlanders FC. Meanwhile, veteran striker Allan Ottey scored twice and Ahmal Nugent-Hudson scored the other as Montego Bay Untied beat Baptist Alliance 3-1.
There were 2-0 wins for Humble Lions over Wadada United, Molynes United over Hopewell United, Portmore United over Lime Hall United, and Tivoli Gardens over Albion Mountain.
Braxton Richards scored two first-half goals to lead Falmouth United to a 2-1 win over Tru-Juice in one of the all-Tier II games.
