Tier II play-off semis to be decided
IRWIN, St James- There could be high drama on today’s final day of the preliminary round of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Tier II play-offs with the final three semi-finalists set to be decided.
Seven teams are still in contention for the three semi-final spots, one from each group, joining Racing United who had won the two-team Group A earlier.
The biggest race looks to be in Group D, where three of the four teams are still in contention, separated by two points and all must win and hope for the best.
Tuscany Warriors of Westmoreland are in the driver’s seat, coming off a big 4-3 win over Harmony FC in their rescheduled game on Wednesday, coming from behind twice and are leading the group with 10 points.
They will play out-of-contention Sandy Bay United, who they had drawn 1-1 with in the first round, while Reggae Youths and Harmony FC, both on nine points, will meet at Irwin High.
A win would see Tuscany Warriors win the group and advance, but if they fail to do that and either Reggae Youths or Harmony FC won their game, they would be the team in the semis.
A draw would be good enough for second-placed Browns Town against Ujama CC in Group B as they would be on an unbeatable six points.
A win for Ujama CC would see all three teams end up on five points and so Ujama must win by two clear goals if they are to get the nod.
In Group C, Goshen FC, leaders in goal difference over Los Perfectos, need only a point from Toll Gate FC to advance.
Toll Gate had won the first meeting between the teams 1-0 and if they want to advance they will have to win by at least four goals to get the edge on goal difference as all three would end on six points.
