Carpenter implicated in bike robbery offered $250,000 bail
A carpenter, who was implicated in a motorcycle robbery, was offered $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
Shemare Williams was charged along with Orane Walters, however, Walters was not offered bail when the Crown pointed out that he had a prior conviction of the same nature. They were both charged with receiving stolen property
In addition to the bail offer, Williams was ordered to surrender all travel documents, with a stop order placed at all ports. He is to report to the nearest police station on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
It is alleged that on January 28, the complainant was “pounced upon” by two men and robbed of his motorcycle around 1:10 am. Although the incident occurred in the early morning, the court was told that the complainant could see the men clearly because the motorcycle’s headlight was directed at them.
It was also revealed that the incident lasted approximately two minutes.
The Crown informed senior parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that after the robbery was reported and an investigation launched, the police were directed to Walters’ premises on February 17, where they saw four motorcycles, including that of the complainant, being worked on by the men.
The police officer said he saw both men “removing mechanical parts” from the motorcycle.
However, during his bail application, Williams’ attorney said he denied the allegations and he was “just looking when the police came on the scene.”
Since a further statement from the complainant was outstanding, it was decided that both Williams and Walters are to return to court on April 28, when it is expected that this statement will be on file.
Walters was further remanded.
