#UpNext: 1Kcama has ‘No Love’ left after heartbreak

A difficult life is what young artiste 1Kcama has come to know. Add heartbreak to the mix and the Portland native is singing that he has ‘No Love’ left.

The 20-year-old, given name Nickoy Patrick, told OBSERVER ONLINE, however, that due to his experiences and hardships he has seen in his environment, he has assigned himself the task of injecting hope into the music industry.

Here are seven questions with up-and-coming dancehall artiste 1Kcama:

1. When did you start doing music?

Around 2021. I got into music after being around my friends and hearing them do it. The talent that I have, and when I sing a song people around me say ‘yeah you have it’. So that motivated me even more that I can do it.

2. How did you know that this was the path for you?

From primary school me used to sing and dance and go theatre to perform and that gave me a little boldness. But my friends, who are around me, they give me the push and influence to do anything me a do. So if it was not for them, especially my mentor Thuglawd, me wouldn’t do music.

3. How did you come up with the name 1Kcama?

Life gave me that name because I have been through a lot of pain. To me, life just hard so I was saying to myself ‘what is harder than life?’ and me say ‘nothing nuh harder than karma’. But adding the number one to it was because of one of my friends. Him always a say ‘Kcama, member your thing different, a you alone a do da thing deh so just put the one because a one of you’ so that’s how 1Kcama came about.

4. What impact do you want to have in the music industry?

I want to make a change. Through my music, I want to bring hope to people. Me know people going through pain, is not me alone a face it and me basically sing about pain that people go through and that I go through. So me just want tell them that no matter how much pain is there, hope is still there.

5. What has the response to ‘No Love’ been like?

‘No Love’ is my first song. It was released on March 11. It is about a few things that I have been through in life; my reality and things I have seen. Me did love one girl and she break me heart so me say you know what, no more love. Overall, I am a genuine person and sometimes people take me for granted so all of that just get put in the song. The people love it, me nuh have no love but them find love for the song.

6. What does a future in music look like for you?

Me never really think about that. If it reach the level where I can get awards, then great. But my focus right now is to move from where I am. Right now I feel stuck still doing 9-5 and it is still hard so I am just focusing on the music because I believe it can help me to move from this state.

7. What’s next for 1Kcama?

I am working on a song with Thuglawd, it is called ‘Fallen’ and it will be released later this month. But for now ‘No Love’ can be found on YouTube.
