Cuban faces court on May 11
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A Cuban woman who allegedly presented a fraudulent document to immigration officials in order to apply for an extension of stay is scheduled to stand trial on May 11.
Arianna Perez Lopez received her trial date after a brief appearance in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday.
Lopez is represented by attorney-at-law Michael Hemmings who was said to be unavoidably absent when the matter was called before the sitting parish judge Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley.
Lopez’s bail was extended until May 11, when the trial is expected to commence and the defence lawyer will be present.
According to court documents, on January 10, Lopez presented a Cuban passport and alien registration certificate to the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) in Montego Bay to apply for an extension of stay.
During processing, it was discovered that the permanent resident stamp in the passport and the stamp inside the certificate of registration were both fraudulent.
She was subsequently charged with uttering a forged document.
