Tips for carnival
KINGSTON, Jamaica-Carnival is one of the most highly anticipated party seasons in Jamaica and this year’s calendar of events is set to culminate in a spectacular fashion on Sunday with the annual Road March.
Hundreds of Jamaicans and tourists alike will flood the streets of the Corporate Area for a jam-packed day of feting and fun. But while one is indulging in all the soca goodness that will no doubt fill the streets of Kingston, one must do so with safety as a top priority. The OBSERVER ONLINE has therefore put together a list of tips to help you keep safe as you party with your ‘famalaay’:
1 Travel with the bare necessities. Do not make yourself a target for pickpockets. Leave all valuables at home.
2 Stay alert. Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
3 Stick with your group at all times. It’s easy to stray as the day progresses but it is imperative that you keep an eye out for your feting crew.
4 Have a meeting point. Just in case you get lost, everyone is aware of the group’s central meeting spot.
5 Pace yourself. A long day in the sun can be overwhelming so ensure that you take things in stride. Do not overdo it and if you feel exhausted in any way be sure to stop by one of the ambulances that will be chipping down the road alongside you.
6. Stay in the designated areas within the rope.
7. Walk with identification.
8. Keep hydrated but drink responsibly.
