Cavalier end regular season with slim win over MBU
TUCKER, St James — Cavalier FC ended their regular season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Montego Bay United (MBU) at Wespow Park on Sunday and earned their place in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Premier League.
Cavalier, who were docked three goals after they used an ineligible player in their 1-0 loss to Waterhouse FC, were sure to finish in the top two and secure their place in the semi-finals. Cavalier ended with 52 points, three behind Arnett Gardens who topped the points tables with 55 and six better than third-placed Mt Pleasant FA.
Ronaldo Webster and Brian Elshot scored early goals for Cavalier FC while player/coach Dwayne Ambusley scored for MBU who had just two substitutes on the bench, one more than their last game when they were beaten 5-2 by Tivoli Gardens.
It looked as if Cavalier would run away with the game as they were on the scoresheet as early as the third minute then added a second in the 22nd before the home team settled down.
Webster fired Cavalier FC into the lead before the MBU team knew what was happening and Elshot added a second in the 22nd minute but with Ambusley pulling the strings from the midfield, MBU started to put up a fight.
They were rewarded just before half-time when Ambusley was well placed to volley home a cross from the right side past goalkeeper Jeadine White’s right hand side.
