Johnson and Lambert win MEAC outdoor titles
Johnelle Johnson and Terine Lambert of Morgan State University won the women’s discus throw and shot put titles, respectively, at the Mid-East American Conference (MEAC) outdoors track and field championships which started on Tuesday at the Dick Price Stadium, Norfolk State University in Virginia.
The women were first and second, respectively as Johnson, formerly of Edwin Allen High, threw 46.68m to retain her discus throw title ahead of Lambert, formerly of Hydel High, who threw a personal best 43.88m.
Lambert had a second-lifetime best on Wednesday when she threw 13.94m to dethrone Johnson who threw 13.29m.
Lambert also placed seventh in the hammer throw with 45.36m while Johnson was ninth with 41.39m.
Last weekend, former Calabar High thrower Daniel Bayeshea of Alabama State led Jamaica to a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s discus throw when he won the South West Athletics Conference (SWAC) title with a personal best 52.59m.
Former Wolmers Boys athlete Danniell Bailey of Arkansas Pine Bluff threw a season’s best 49.34m for second and former Excelsior High thrower Deandre Fyffe also of Arkansas Pine Bluff was third with 49.16m.
Fyffe was second in the shot put with a season’s best 16.40m while Bayeshea placed eighth with a personal best of 15.07m.
Several major conference championships will be staged this weekend, featuring dozens of Jamaicans as the NCCA outdoors season draws to a close.
The Conference Championships will include the ‘Power Five’; Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Big12, Big10, South-eastern Conference (SEC) and Pac12.
