Man shot dead in Hanover, one of three parishes under SOE

HANOVER, Jamaica — Gunmen struck in the parish of Hanover on Thursday night, leaving one man dead. The parish is one of the three currently under a state of public emergency (SOE).

The dead man has been identified as Rushane Rhooms of a Haughton Court, Lucea address.

Reports are that about 11:45 pm, explosions were heard in the Haughton Court area of Lucea and the police summoned.

Upon their arrival, Rhooms was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea where he was pronounced dead.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a SOE in the parishes of Clarendon, St James and Hanover on Tuesday.
