NWC responds, adjust bills
Dear Claudienne,
My mother is 73 years old and she has lived at the same address in St Catherine for over 40 years, and never in history has she ever received a bill amounting to $82,000. On the 17th of January 2023 she paid $4,000 after her water service was disconnected for non-payment. The amount owing then was $1,707.44.
On February 9, 2023 she paid $2,500. At that time, the receipt showed that she owed $4, 979.05. I must add that from December 2022, she received no bill but decided to pay each month to avoid any form of discrepancy. So can you imagine the utter shock when she visited the Portmore branch on March 31, 2023 and was told that she owes $78,820.42. She paid $3,000.00. If this is not an error I don’t know what error or mistake means.
To add insult to injury, the NWC April bill stated that she owed $89,533.89 with the current balance being $13,463.47. I have written to the NWC and pointed out that an error must have been made in the computation of the bills, but they have not responded.
Your help in this matter is urgently needed.

Tell Claudienne contacted the NWC and notes that the NWC sent you the following e-mail.
“Your e-mail is acknowledged and the contents duly noted. As communicated in our telephone conversation, we will conduct an inspection tomorrow, May 17, 2023, to assist in ascertaining the possible cause for the hike in the consumption. Also, that the bills for February to April 2023 were high; however, a reduction is noted for May.
When the inspection is complete, we will provide you with an update and the way forward. Kindly be reminded to send me the document your mom received sometime this month, to show a zero balance.”
