Support needed for the Reggae Girlz

Support needed for the Reggae Girlz

Dear Editor,

I wish to congratulate the Reggae Girlz on their recent performances at the World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand.

I think this is a fantastic achievement because, in agreement with Neville Bell this morning on Smile Jamaica, I did not think that they would have advanced from the group stage.

I have been one of the few who venture to the National Stadium to watch them whenever they play locally, and so I expected them to do well.

They have been making strides and the goalkeeper, Rebecca Spencer, must be commended for her tireless effort in goal. She and her teammates were able to keep out the indomitable Martha from Brazil, and was thrilled that it finally ended in a goalless draw. They should be commended for their actions, and all Jamaicans should celebrate, at this time of Independence, this achievement.

I also wish for the private sector to hop on board and support these girls as it was publicised that they had to rely on crowdfunding sources to finance their campaign.

Finally, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) executives should come together and resolve their differences so that these girls can get the support they need as they move forward to the next round.

Congrats to the Girlz and I firmly believe that with their determination they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Daniel Morgan
