She’s My Destiny, Jordon Reign’s set for epic duel
THE $1.75-million Reggae Trophy (GR1), the premier event on today’s nine-race schedule at Caymanas Park, pits She’s My Destiny against Jordon Reign’s in what is predicted to be a compelling duel for dominance in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance race over five furlongs (1,000m) straight.
Based on fitness and preparation She’s My Destiny appears to be the best choice to win the trophy race. This season the Jason DaCosta trainee has raced six times, winning twice, finishing second once, and finishing third twice while Jordon Reign’s, trained by Peter-John Parsard, is making his comeback from a 224-day layoff.
Bred by Bern Identity – Woman Is Boss, She’s My Destiny last ran on June 24 and won by a 2 3/4 lengths over stablemates King Arthur and Miniature Man over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) while clocking 1:06.2 (23.2 x 46.2). She has worked hard for this race, clocking a 1:00.2 out of the starting gates at the distance on Saturday, August 5, with the first four furlongs coming in 46.0.
She’s My Destiny had competed over the straight once in her 21-race career, failing to land any blow and finishing out of the top three, but the five-year-old chestnut mare is, nevertheless, likely to set the early pace. If Jordon Reign’s catches her, however, he will surely win. Reyan Lewis will weigh 54 kilograms (119 pounds).
Jordon Reign’s most recent race was on December 31, 2022 when he came second to stablemate Mahogany in the Ian Levy Cup over eight and a half furlongs (1,700m). Prior to that, on December 3 the five-year-old American-bred bay gelding placed third behind Excessive Force and Duke in the ultra-rich Mouttet Mile (invitational).
Jordon Reign’s also goes well down the straight, as seen by his three wins from four races. Last year he won this event in 59.4 seconds, beating Curlin’s Affair and She’s A Wonder. Jordon Reign’s is good enough to win even if he needs the run. Tevin Foster will ride at a maximum weight of 57 kilograms (126 pounds).
The race is scheduled to start at 3:45 pm as the seventh event on the programme. The first race is scheduled for high noon.
The field is made up of Brinks, Lure of Lucy, and Perfect Brew.
Brinks, a stablemate of Jordon Reign’s, is only there to make sure the race is run.
Lure of Lucy has been a consistent sort over the straight with one win and two second-place finishes from three starts. Lure of Lucy should put in another effort here at the distance. Note: Tongue tie is off.
Perfect Brew has improved tremendously since the back end of last year. The Richard Azan-conditioned Perfect Brew, who is in good form, can figure here and should be given respect.
