H’View, Dunbeholden square off in Concacaf Club Championship match
Former champions Harbour View and Dunbeholden will clash today in their opening Group B match in the Concacaf Club Championship at Sabina Park starting at 5:00 pm.
The group also includes Athletico Pantoja and Cibao of the Dominican Republic.
Harbour View, who made it to the semi-finals of last season’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL), will be competing in the championship for the first time since 2014. In fact, Harbour View remains the only Jamaican club to have won the championships, having done so in 2006 and 2008.
Cylde Jureidini, general manager of Harbour View, said the club is excited to be playing in the competition this year and the team is looking to put on a good showing against Dunbeholden.
“…the players, coaches, management staff and the community are excited about it and so we are supposing that the newly assembled unit is ready to get a positive result,” he said.
“The players are going to do their jobs and try to execute the plans of the coaches,” he said. “The results, we will see how that goes because that is beyond all of us, but the players are focused and they are going to try and get a positive result,” Jureidini added.
The game marked the debut for the Lenworth “Teacher” Hyde-coached Dunbeholden, who were runners-ups to Harbour View in the 2022 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season.
Hyde said they are looking forward to an exciting contest and he believes that once his team executes properly on the day, then he is confident that they will come out on top.
“We are upbeat, and we are looking forward to an exciting encounter,” said Hyde. “We know that Harbour View play good football and so do Dunbeholden and we know each other from last season’s Premier League, so whoever makes the least mistakes and who can keep their composure and play a disciplined game will win the match,” he said.
Hyde, who took over the reins as head of the St Catherine-based club just over a month ago, pointed out that his team’s preparation going into today’s match has been good.
“We have had a very good preseason because I have been here about a month now and they were preparing before that, and so it is just to go out there and put it on the field and get a victory,” said the veteran coach.
