Elevation Cycling Club riders to compete in New York tourney
TWO of Jamaica’s most promising young riders from Elevation Cycling Club, based in Old Harbour, St Catherine, will compete in Major Taylor Iron Riders’ Montauk The Legends Ride, in Brooklyn, New York.
The event is scheduled for September 10, 2023, with hundreds of riders battling it out over the 125-mile flat course from Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to Montauk Lighthouse.
Peter Robinson, 16, and 17-year-old Jaequan Dixon were due to depart the island on Friday to compete in the event from which they are expected to gain valuable experience.
Dixon is the reigning national junior champion while Robinson recently won the Elevation Cycling Club Development Race Meet at the Portmore Town Centre’s roundabout.
Major Taylor Iron Riders is a multilevel cycling club founded in 2006 and named in honour of Marshall “Major” Taylor, the first African American cycling champion, and the 1899 US Army 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps known as the Iron Riders.
