A diverse fleet of 24 boats from both Jamaica and the Cayman Islands is now in a head-to-head battle in the Superstars of Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament, presented by Mayberry Investments this week.

These boats are all guided by teams of anglers who are showcasing their angling skills and teamwork to capture the elusive marlin.

Jamaica’s anglers will be joined by counterparts from around the world, most notably from as far away as Portugal. Defending championship team Bad Market from The Cayman Islands will also be returning to defend their title.

Organisers say the event is “set against the backdrop of Jamaica’s lush landscape, as the tournament offers a captivating blend of world-class sportfishing and the breath-taking beauty of Port Antonio’s coastline.

“As one of the most anticipated events in the Caribbean’s sportfishing calendar, it attracts participants and spectators alike to experience the thrill of marlin fishing in the stunning waters of the Caribbean Sea.”

Tournament Director Robert Stewart is proud that a sum of $1.5 million will be donated to a local foundation, towards community development in Portland.

“We are thrilled to once again welcome anglers from Jamaica and the Cayman Islands to the Superstars of Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of sportfishing and appreciate the natural beauty of our surroundings.”

Marine artist Carey Chen is this year’s notable patron.

“As an artist who finds inspiration in the sea, I am honoured to support the Superstars of Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament. I look forward to seeing the anglers in action and competing with them.”

The tournament offers attractive prizes and trophies for various categories, including the largest marlin caught and the overall championship. Up to US$330,000 (over $51 million) is available to be won by the competing teams and anglers, another record for sportfishing in the island. The winner of this tournament will represent Jamaica in the 2024 Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica. This is the largest and most prestigious sportfishing tournament series in the world.
