Reggae Boy Lowe wants goals to inspire positive results
LONDON, England (CMC) – Reggae Boy Jamal Lowe wants his goals this season to count for wins, after scoring last weekend, but he had to watch as Swansea City fell to their seventh defeat of the Championship.
The 29-year-old has netted four times for the Swans since joining on a season-long loan from Premiership Bournemouth, his latest strike coming in a 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town away at Portman Road.
Swansea City lie 17th on 19 points after languishing in the drop zone in the early stages of the new campaign.
“I got a goal and an assist, but being ultra critical, I felt I should have had two goals,” said Lowe, who debuted for Jamaica two years ago against United States.
“But we’ve just got to keep working so these goals and assists count instead of just almost getting us there.”
Lowe scored in three straight games earlier in the season, his goals inspiring Swansea City to victory in all three outings as the club went on a four-game winning run.
Their latest setback was their third defeat in their last five outings, leaving them fighting to get out of the bottom half of the table.
“It was a tough game. They’re one of the best teams in the league, they play good football and they can mix it up,” he said.
“We could have played a bit more. I think they forced us into playing longer and that doesn’t suit us, we don’t have the personnel for that style of play.
“We started well and went 1-0 up, but the shackles went on at that point. It should be the other way around, you should go 1-0 up and the confidence should be high. That’s something we can work on and do better.
“I felt that we could have done a lot better with some of the goals. Jack Taylor’s goal is an unbelievable strike, but we probably should have defended better for the other one and the penalty.”
Taylor equalised in the 17th minute after the Swans had led on seven minutes through Jay Fulton. Conor Chaplin doubled Ipswich’s lead in the 22nd before George Hirst tucked away a 53rd minute penalty to erase Swans’ hopes of a comeback.
Lowe’s strike came deep in stoppage time at the end, a brilliant solo effort after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men in the 69th.
