God of Love a safe bet in Ahwhofah Sprint feature

AFTER four unsuccessful outings in the class above, God of Love drops to the Overnight Allowance level in what should be an easy win during today’s $1.25-million Ahwhofah Sprint over six furlongs (1,200m) at Caymanas Park.

God of Love ran in the Port Royal Sprint on November 11 and finished 12th, 18 1/2 lengths behind victor Mahogany over today’s distance. God of Love showed up briefly in the race before fading badly in deep stretch.

Stepping up the ladder and with nothing in the line-up that compares to Mahogany, God of Love appears to be a safe pick here.

God of Love last raced in the Overnight Allowance on July 1, when he won by three lengths over five and a half furlongs (1,100m). God of Love won in 1:06.3.

Rider Robert Halledeen has been called in by trainer Ricardo Mathie to do the honours.

The three-year-old and upward contest is positioned as the ninth and final event on the day with a post time of 4:55 pm. First race is at 12:00 pm.

Duke, El Profesor, Race Car, and Emperorofthecats should make the race interesting.

Duke returns after finishing 11th in the last Mouttet Mile on December 2. Duke should be able to handle these runners, and if he can restore form here then he should make a strong bid. In eight starts this season Race Car has failed to win a race here, however the Spencer Chung trainee has been getting fitter with each run and may finally be able to get things right.

El Profesor is a seasoned runner who occasionally surprises with unexpected runs. El Profesor‘s third-place finish behind Luksol at five and a half furlongs on November 25 hinted that he is about to compete again. Emperorofthecats returns in good form following an almost six-month hiatus Emperorofthecats, a four-year-old bay gelding, has been training well and has a good pace.
