St Ann man accused of rape, abduction chopped to death
A St Ann man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl and abducting a two-year-old boy in Moneague in the parish between Thursday and Friday was chopped to death by residents.
Police identified him as 36-year-old Orando Coward, also known as Teo. He was unemployed and lived at Gray Wood.
The cops said they had been searching for him after he was accused of raping the girl on Thursday.
They said on Friday, about 7:20 am, Coward armed himself with a shotgun and a home-made handgun and went to the home of a woman.
The police reported that he smashed the window, entered the house and held onto the woman’s eight-year-old daughter.
They said the mother fought off Coward and took her daughter. However, he grabbed her two-year-old son and ran away with him into heavy foliage.
A manhunt was launched and the toddler was found alive.
The police said that after 9:00 am the same day he returned to the house and held several people at gunpoint.
However, residents confronted Coward and inflicted several chop wounds to his upper body.
He fled the scene, but was later found unresponsive by residents in a stream.
The police were alerted and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police said a shotgun and a home-made handgun were taken from the scene.
