Jamaican clubs have secured their spots in the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup by virtue of reaching the final of the country’s top domestic competition, the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).
They are reigning champions Mount Pleasant FA and last season’s runners-up Cavalier SC. Both are to meet in a repeat of the 2023 premier league championship game at Jamaica’s National Stadium on Sunday.
Mount Pleasant secured their spot in the final after their 3-2 semi-final aggregate victory over Waterhouse FC, while Cavalier brushed aside Arnett Gardens 4-2 over the two legs.
Mount Pleasant will be making their debut in a Caribbean Cup, while Cavalier return for consecutive appearances. Runners-up in 2023, Cavalier went unbeaten in the group stage before finishing with the silver medal and earning their debut appearance in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Also securing early berths in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup are Trinidad and Tobago’s AC Port of Spain, and the Dominican Republic pair of Cibao FC and Moca FC.
AC Port of Spain will take part in their second appearance at the Caribbean Cup and will be hoping to reach new milestones by getting their first win in the tournament.
Cibao FC, which will be making their second appearance in the Caribbean Cup as the 2023 domestic league champion, have become a regular to Concacaf competition, appearing in the 2018 Champions League and the 2020 and 2022 Concacaf League.
Based in Santiago de los Caballeros, Cibao became the first team in the history of the Dominican Republic to secure an official international title when they won the 2017 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship.
Moca FC return for their second Caribbean Cup due to their standing in the 2023 season. Moca reached the semi-finals in the previous edition and won the third-place match to qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, making their debut earlier this year.
The remaining clubs in the 10-team field will be determined as their respective nations wrap up their domestic seasons.
The second edition of the regional club competition, which serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, is to be played between August and December 2024.
Concacaf has scheduled a draw to be held on June 6 to divide the teams into two groups of five.
