Mother and child killed in Ukrainian strike on Russia: Belgorod governor
MOSCOW, Russia (AFP) — A Ukrainian drone struck a family driving in a village along Russia’s border, killing the mother and four-year-old child, Governor of Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov said early Friday.
“As a result of the explosion, the woman died on the spot from her wounds,” said Gladkov.
“The child was in critical condition. Doctors did everything possible to save him,” he said, adding that the four-year-old died of his injuries in hospital.
The father “is in shock”, and while he has injuries, has refused medical help, said Gladkov.
The driver of the car was treated for shrapnel wounds to his hands.
Another drone attack caused a fire at a gas station in Bessonovka village, but the flames were quickly put out, according to the governor.
Moscow and Kyiv have escalated aerial attacks on each others’ border regions in recent weeks.
