Apprentice Shane Richardson making noticeable progress

Apprentice jockey Shane Richardson showed his growing prowess in the saddle on Saturday, June 29, 2024, guiding Benson to a convincing victory in the third race at Caymanas Park.

This marked Richardson’s 11th win of the season, demonstrating his rapid development as a talented young rider.

Benson’s triumph came in Division One of a native-bred four-year-old and upward (non-winners of three) and imported four-year-old and upward (non-winners of two) at six furlongs.

The four-year-old bay colt won by 5 ¼ lengths ahead of Bernard De Quick (Omar Walker) and Grey Commander (Ramon Nepare). The race was completed in a time of 1:13.4, with fractions of 24.0, 47.4, and 1:00.1.

Benson was hustled to take up the running at the break, and the Here Comes Ben offspring showed the way ahead of May Sellington (Paul Francis), Bernard De Quick, and
Golden Syrup (Raddesh Roman).

Going into the half-mile turn, Benson upped the tempo and increased his lead ahead of
Bernard De Quick and Grey Commander (Ramon Nepare).

With no real challenger coming forward in deep stretch, the Fitznahum Williams-trained Benson went about his business as he cruised home to register his third win from eight career starts.
