Fraser-Pryce to make seasonal debut on Tuesday

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is scheduled to make her long-awaited seasonal debut in Europe as she is down to compete in the women’s 100m at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern track and field meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.

Fraser-Pryce, 37, who is gearing up to compete in her fifth Olympic Games this month in Paris, will go up against her compatriots Kemba Nelson, Shashalee Forbes, Crystal Sloley, and Jodean Williams in Tuesday’s race.

Fraser-Pryce has a personal best time of 10.60 seconds but will enter Tuesday’s event with a season-best effort of 10.91 seconds, achieved at the National Championships held at the National Stadium last month.

Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland and Celera Barnes of the US are also set to compete in Tuesday’s 100m event. Brian Williams, Serena Cole, and Kishawna Niles are scheduled to contest the women’s 100m B race for Jamaica. Rohan Watson will contest the men’s 100m A race, while Michael Campbell will compete in the men’s 100m C event.

Schoolboy Gary Card from Wolmer’s Boys’, who has been having an outstanding season, will run the men’s 200m alongside Lance Lang from the United States and Jereem Richards from Trinidad and Tobago. Reigning World Indoor 400m bronze medallist Rusheen McDonald will contest the men’s 400m event, while Stacey-Ann Williams will compete in the women’s 400m.

National champion Rasheed Broadbell will also be looking to improve on his season’s best of 13.18 seconds when he contests the men’s 110m hurdles event. In the field events, Ackelia Smith is scheduled to participate in the women’s long jump competition.
