Crucial Alexxya comes good in Jamaica Jockeys’ Guild Trophy

Crucial Alexxya, a four-year-old grey filly, bred, owned, and trained by Carl Anderson, finally found her way to the winners’ circle on July 20, 2024, in the Jamaica Jockeys’ Guild Trophy at Caymanas Park.

Bred by Admiral Alex out of Crucial Cat, Crucial Alexxya showcased her abilities by coming from behind to win the seven-furlong race by a convincing six lengths. The race was for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens).

This triumph by Crucial Alexxya marked a significant milestone for the filly, who had previously gone winless in her last 11 starts.

Jockey Aaron Chatrie held Crucial Alexxya in fifth place, trailing Sugar Sugar (Raddesh Roman), Joblane (Youville Pinnock), Workout Cru (Omar Walker), and Atomic Energy (Matthew Bennett) down the backstretch.

Crucial Alexxya continued to maintain her steady gallop until going into the half-mile turn when she began to round horses. Approaching the distance, Crucial Alexxya drew alongside Sugar Sugar before taking full control of the race at the top of the lane.

Crucial Alexxya went on to win easily ahead of Joblane and Workout Cru in that order. The winning time was 1:30.3 (24.0 x 48.4 x 1:15.4).
