Duncans United, 12th Street rebound with wins
Leaders Progressive, Duncans United and 12th Street FC all scored wins as the return round of the Jamaica Football Federation Championship play-offs got under way on Saturday but Boys Town of Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) tasted defeat for the first time.
Progressive FC in Group B, as well as Duncans and 12th Street in Group D, scored repeat wins to increase their margins in their respective groups but Spanish Town Police avenged their first-round loss to Boys Town and took over the lead in Group A.
After losing their opening game 3-1 at home at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, Spanish Town Police returned the favour with a 3-0 beating of Boys Town at Collie Smith Drive on Saturday.
Shamar Harris gave Spanish Town Police the lead in the 12th minute and an own goal in the 50th saw them double the advantage before Chevon Walters sealed the victory when he scored in the 75th minute.
The win was the second in a row for Spanish Town Police who moved past Boys Town to the top of the points table with six points, two more than the KSAFA champions.
Progressive FC who had won their first round game 1-0, beat Exchange FC 3-1 at Drax Hall thanks to a double from Fitzroy Allen and improved to seven points in the tables.
Obrien Reid had given Progressive FC the lead in the 17th minute and Allen made the scores 2-0 in the 38th minute before Shamar Blake pulled a goal back for Exchange when he scored in time added at the end of the first half.
Allen however completed his brace in the 88th minute for Progressive FC.
Renard Cunningham had a hat trick for Duncans as they beat Granville United 3-1 in a game that saw three goals coming in the final 19 minutes of the game as they lead on goal-difference over 12th Street.
Both Duncans and 12th Street are tied on 10 points from three wins and a draw.
Jada Smith scored in time added at the end of the first half to give Duncans United the lead but they had to wait until the 71st minute to double their lead when Cunningham got the first of his brace.
Lujay Doeman scored in the 81st minute to give winless Granville United hope, making the scores 2-1 but Cunningham slammed the door shut when he scored again in the 85th minute.
At Watson Taylor Park, Michael Kerr scored twice for 12th Street, taking his tally to five goals as they beat Lucea United 2-0.
After a goalless first half, Kerr, the competition’s leading scorer, gave the Westmoreland team the lead in the 49th minute before adding a second in the 85th minute.
