Comehometome dominates Winston ‘Fanna’ Griffiths OD Classic
IN a stunning display of speed and endurance, three-year-old bay filly Comehometome led from start to finish, claiming the fourth running of the $3.75-million Winston “Fanna” Griffiths OD Classic feature race in dominating fashion on Sunday’s 11-race card.
Trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Tevin Foster, Comehometome delivered a masterclass performance, winning by an impressive 6½ lengths in the Graded Stakes contest for native-bred three-year-olds.
Unchallenged throughout the nine-and-half-furlong (1,900m) contest, Comehometome showcased her exceptional talent, crossing the finishing line in a time of 2:03.2 (26.2 x 51.4 x 1:16.1 x 1:41.4). Allegiance (Omar Walker) and Brenda Boy (Raddesh Roman) trailed behind, securing second and third place, respectively.
Comehometome’s dominant victory marked a significant triumph for the native-bred three-year-old, solidifying her position as a horse of considerable note. With her impressive win she takes her racing statistics to two wins, five second-place finishes, and one third from 14 starts, with lifetime earnings exceeding $4.7 million.
Meanwhile, in an impressive debut on local soil, visiting jockey Arnaldo Bocachica booted home two winners, making a significant impact on the racing scene. His victories included D Head Cornerstone in the $1.25-million Kenneth Mattis Memorial Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m). Trained by Peter-John Parsard, D Head Cornerstone won by two and a half lengths ahead of Rainsville and Power From Above in a time of 1:57.2. (26.1 x 50.4 x 1:16.1 x 1:42.4)
His other winner was Tuts in the second race, marking a milestone for trainer Adin Williams who was enjoying his 100th career victory.
In addition, the Winston “Fanna” Griffiths OD Jockey’s Championship was won by A King is Born, consisting of jockeys Paul Francis and Oshane Nugent, with 25 points. Royal Dad (Robert Halledeen and Phillip Parchment) took second place with 22 points, while Legal Light (Reyan Lewis and Shavon Townsend) secured third place with 21 points.
The winners received significant prizes, with A King is Born taking home $400,000; Royal Dad earning $250,000; and Legal Light receiving $150,000.
