Frome hunt second-straight win today
Former champions Frome Technical are one of five schools seeking back-to-back wins to start the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition with 12 games scheduled for today.
Frome Technical, Manchester High, Belair High, Mt St Joseph Catholic and Ocho Rios High are all going for a second-straight win as they seek to get the upper hand in their respective zones.
Five schools have won their first two games so far — former champions Glenmuir High, and Garvey Maceo, Holmwood Technical, Happy Grove, and Port Antonio High.
Yesterday, Munro College completed their game against Lacovia High that was interrupted by lightning on Wednesday, winning 2-0 with two goals from Tristan Forde.
Munro College led 1-0 late in the second half when the game was called off and was completed on Thursday.
Wycliffe Martin High opened their account with a 3-1 win over Horace Clarke High in Zone M while St Mary Technical rebounded from their opening game loss to Port Antonio High to edged Iona High 1-0 thanks to a 65th minute goal from Kevonnie Clarke.
Today, Mount St Joseph Catholic High who are in their third season, opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over May Day High and would make school history if they can chalk up consecutive wins, when they host deCarteret College in their Zone F game.
Mount St Joseph Catholic has earned one draw against deCarteret College, in their debut season in 2022, lost both times they met last season but deCarteret were beaten 4-0 by Belair High in their opening game.
Also in Zone F, Manchester High will get their first chance to play after they were awarded points on Saturday against Cross Keys, when they take on May Day High.
Frome Technical beat Cambridge High twice last year after the St James based school made a return after several years away but could could be made to work for a win today.
Cambridge High led at Rusea’s High on Tuesday before going down 3-1 but will hope to use home field advantage and get their first win since the 2018 season.
Ocho Rios High visits Marcus Garvey High at Drax Hall and they will be meeting for the first time since the 2022 season when they shared victories.
Also today, after being held to a goalless draw by Alphansus Davis High, Christiana High will seek to rebound when they visit Mile Gully High who lost their opening game.
