Mona two from two in Manning Cup
Defending champions Mona High produced a workmanlike performance to edge host Jonathan Grant 1-0 in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition at Jonathan Grant High School on Thursday.
Robinho Gordon scored the all important goal for Mona in the 75th minute of the match. However, they ended the match with 10 players after Cameron Salesman was sent off after picking up a second yellow card in the 80th minute of the game. The victory was Mona’s second-straight win of the season after their 7-0 win over Waterford in their opening match on Saturday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. Mona High School headmaster Keven Jones said the match was a tough game for his team due to the challenging conditions of the surface.
“It was a rather difficult game due to the size and condition of the field,” Jones said.
“We were unable to play the way we really wanted to and coach [Craig] Butler had to make some adjustments. With that said, we got what we went for, three points, and today I can say I am a happy headmaster.”
Tarrant registered the biggest margin of victory in the competition on Thursday with an easy 7-1 win over Gaynstead.
