Elderly man found dead in suspected suicide at St Mary home

ST MARY, Jamaica— Police are investigating a case of suspected suicide, after an elderly man was found hanging from the ceiling of his one bedroom house in Islington, St Mary on Friday.

The man has been identified as 75-year-old Rupert Brown.

It is reported that Brown was found around 6:00am by his caregiver Colet Wint, who was left in shock following the discovery of the body.

She described Brown as a quiet person who kept to himself. The incident has left community members questioning what led the elderly man to commit suicide.

“It was just the other day I took him to the doctor as he was sick and he was admitted in the hospital and he came out of the hospital and this is what I come this morning and see. I find him tied up in the ceiling,” Wint told Observer Online, as she fought to hold back tears.
