Run Julie Run shatters stakes record in Chairman’s Plate romp
Trainer Ian Parsard’s talented filly Run Julie Run (Successful Native – Runaway Julie) cemented her status as the top three-year-old filly in training with a breath-taking performance in the $3-million Chairman’s Plate on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Run Julie Run, ridden by Reyan Lewis, dominated the field, crossing the finish line 5 ½ lengths ahead of the competition in the Overnight Allowance contest in a new stakes record time of 1:54.2 for 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820 m).
At the off, Run Julie Run shot to the front and never looked back. She maintained a steady gallop down the backstretch, upped the tempo when necessary, and sprinted home without any challenge. She won ahead of She’s A Godgift (Javaniel Patterson) and
Impressive Force (Raddesh Roman).
Parsard was beaming with pride after the race, praising his filly’s exceptional talent and resilience.
“She is just fantastic,” he exclaimed to the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I was really concerned about today’s race because she had a lot of running to do the entire season, and she has had three hard races since October. I was worried that she might be feeling the effects of a long campaign,” he added.
Despite his concerns, Parsard’s filly proved to be in top form, taking the lead early and never looking back.
“To be honest, there wasn’t any pressure in this race,” Parsard noted.
“She was able to get the lead and was very comfortable. I mean, nobody was within a length of her, and so any splits going 50.0 for the first half mile, to me, at that point, it was a matter of how far she would win,” Parsard said.
Parsard revealed that the Chairman’s Plate was not originally part of their plans, but the filly’s impressive form prompted a change of heart.
“This race was not on our calendar, but she turned up and ran a stakes record, and it showed how much of a talent she is,” he said.
With her impressive victory, Run Julie Run has earned a well-deserved break. Parsard confirmed that the filly will now take a rest before returning to action next year. As for what the future holds, Parsard said Run Julie Run will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.
