Night Football League ‘bringing people together’ in Pimento Walk
The third season of the Reddish Foundation Community 8 V 8 Night Football League is scheduled to start in April, according to founder Garnel Reddish. It is held in Pimento Walk, St Ann, the Orlando, Florida-based businessman’s hometown.
LLPG FC won the second season which ended in December.
Reddish says the competition, which was first held last summer, has helped build camaraderie in Pimento Walk and neighouring communities.
“It has significantly impacted our local landscape. It has brought people together while fostering unity and peace, causing a positive effect on and off the field,” he told Observer Online.
LLPG FC beat One Link FC 3-1 on penalties in the final, which ended 1-1 after full time. The match took place on December 21.
The champions received $100,000 while One Link FC, who also finished runners-up in the inaugural season, were awarded $40,000. Sajay Anderson, who scored the goal that tied the final for LLPG FC, was joint leading scorer with four goals with Raheim Brown.
Aladdin Smith of One Link was selected top goalkeeper in the two-month tournament which was contested by 13 teams from St Ann.
Reddish is satisfied with the response to the league which he co-sponsored.
“I am overall pleased with the turnout each and every Sunday, and also the night of the final. I am grateful and give big thanks to all members of the Reddish Foundation Inc team,” he said.
