Runaway Star shines bright with dominant maiden victory
The native-bred three-year-olds Classic series is just around the corner, and Runaway Star has thrust himself into contention with a breathtaking win in a Maiden Condition Race on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Owned by Edward Steadman, trained by Jason DaCosta, and ridden by Raddesh Roman, the chestnut colt annihilated the competition, romping home by an impressive 8 ½ lengths in the 7-furlong (1,400m) contest. Runaway Star’s (Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) winning time was a respectable 1:28.2 (24.2 x 48.1 x 1:15.0).
Breaking off well at the start, Runaway Star disputed the early lead with Prolific Prince (Shane Ellis), and the two continued their thrilling duel down the backstretch. As they navigated the half-mile (800m) turn, Runaway Star and Prolific Prince drew away from the rest of the pack.
Turning for home, the two leaders were neck and neck, but when Roman urged Runaway Star to unleash his full potential, the colt exploded into a blistering gallop, leaving Prolific Prince and the rest of the field in his dust. Beneison (Tajay Suckoo) ran on to claim second place, ahead of Prolific Prince in third.
With this dazzling performance, Runaway Star has sent a clear message that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming Classic series.
