Henry continues to shine with wins aboard Blitz Strike, Bestdaughterinlaw, Lockdown, and earlier Brompton Boy
WESLEY “Callaloo” Henry’s return to competitive racing on April 19, 2025 had been met with excitement and anticipation.
The seasoned jockey had been away for a while but his skills in the saddle were still highly sought after. On Saturday, April 26, 2025 Henry’s talent shone brightly at Caymanas Park where he rode two winners in a thrilling display of horsemanship.
The first victory came in the third race, a Restricted Allowance contest over seven furlongs (1,400m) duriing which Henry partnered with Blitz Strike, trained by Phillip Lee. As the gates opened Blitz Strike was slowly into stride and had to settle around the back of the field, biding its time. Henry sensed the perfect moment to make his move and with a gentle nudge,
Blitz Strike unleashed a powerful surge approaching the distance to be on heels of the leaders at the top of lane. In deep stretch Blitz Strike took over, leaving the competition in his wake. The crowd erupted in cheers as Blitz Strike crossed the finishing line in 1:33.2, a commanding 5½ lengths ahead of Medal Award (Demar Williams) and Xylophonic Steel (Robert Halledeen).
Henry’s second win came in the fifth race, a Restricted Allowance IV contest over four furlongs (800m) during which he rode Bestdaughterinlaw, trained by Vincent Atkinson. Breaking swiftly from the gate, Bestdaughterinlaw took the lead early and maintained it, with Henry expertly guiding her through the tight turns. As the finishing line approached,
Bella Bella (Raddesh Roman) launched a fierce challenge but Bestdaughterinlaw held firm, winning by a head in a thrilling finish. The crowd roared with approval as Henry celebrated his double win.
With these two victories Henry proved that his experience and skill were still very much intact, and he once again demonstrated why he is one of the top jockeys at Caymanas Park.
Henry continued his winning streak on Sunday, April 27 with a notable victory aboard Lockdown, trained by Howard Jaghai. Initially Don Kwesi, ridden by Calvin Bailey, crossed the finishing line first, with Lockdown finishing second. However, Henry lodged an objection, challenging the result.
After reviewing the race the stewards upheld Henry’s objection, ruling in favor of Lockdown. The colours of Don Kwesi were subsequently taken down and Lockdown was declared the winner. This decisive win added to Henry’s impressive tally, showcasing his skill and determination in the saddle.
With wins aboard Blitz Strike, Bestdaughterinlaw, and Lockdown, Henry had claimed three winners in just two race days. This impressive streak began on April 19 with a win aboard Brompton Boy, bringing his total tally to four winners in a short span.
These victories pushed Henry’s career wins at Caymanas Park to an impressive 771, solidifying his position as one of the top jockeys at the track. Henry’s consistency and skill continued to make him a force to be reckoned with in the racing world.
