Peter-John Parsard making waves at Caymanas Park
At just 29 years old, Peter-John Parsard is already making waves at Caymanas Park. With 11 wins this season and 35 overall since stepping out on his own two and a half years ago, Parsard is proving that success runs in the blood, but also that hard work, patience, and vision play their part too.
A third-generation trainer, Parsard is following in the footsteps of his father, Ian Parsard, one of the top trainers at Caymanas Park, and his grandfather before that. “I have been around it all my life,” Peter-John said. “I saw my father take a small barn with 10 to 12 horses and dominate Grade One races. I learned from the best with dad.”
Before taking charge of his own stable, Peter-John spent more than a decade as assistant trainer in his father’s camp. The years of hands-on experience and immersion in the family tradition have shaped a young trainer who is confident, capable and quietly ambitious.
“I have gotten a lot of support,” he said. “Support from both family one and two. I have a fantastic set of partners who support me with good horses. It starts with the owners and I also have a fantastic team, so I have seen my stable progress not just in number-wise but wins, quality, everything. It is exciting, and hopefully, we can keep the momentum going.”
With each winner saddled, Peter-John continues to carve out a name for himself, no longer just Ian Parsard’s son but a respected trainer in his own right.
“The only plan I have is for every horse to maximise their ability. If I can do that, then that’s a success,” he added. Though he has already made an impressive start to his career, Peter-John is aiming higher. “I have won 35 races so far, and if I can reach 50 this year, that would be a major accomplishment, not just for my career but for the season as well.”
He pointed out that he knows what his team is capable of and sees the potential to build something special. “It is embedded in me. I know what our camp can do, and I know what I have been able to accomplish. If we can build on that, then it will be very exciting.”
