PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – The United States Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago Friday said that three Trinidad and Tobago nationals, “with significant criminal records,” have arrived on the island after being deported from the North American country.

In a statement, the embassy said that the deportees arrived here on a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation charter flight at Piarco International Airport.

“The three male and two female Trinbagonian deportees, ranging in age from 19 to 57, and all with significant criminal records, were processed by Trinidad and Tobago Customs and Immigration, and Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) personnel on arrival.

“One of the deportees, previously deported from the US, had an outstanding warrant in Trinidad and Tobago for robbery. Representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Social Development and Family Service, and the NGO Vision on Mission were also present to provide essential services to those in need of assistance,” the embassy said.

It said that Washington recognises the valuable assistance of Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation, Trinidad and Tobago Customs and Immigration, TT Airport Authority, and the TTPS for their roles in facilitating the arrival of the charter flight and receipt and processing of the deportees.

“This latest cooperative effort highlights the close working relationship between our nations, our law enforcement professionals, and all levels of government in facilitating a top US administration priority to ensure secure our borders,” said US Chargé d’Affaires, Dr Jenifer Neidhart de Ortiz.
