Los Perfectos hunt revenge vs Cavalier in JWPL
LOS Perfectos FC will seek to atone for their first-round loss to Cavalier FC when the teams meet in a crucial Jamaica Women’s Premier League return game at Brooks Park in Mandeville. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon.
Five points separate the two teams which are both in the race for the three remaining semi-final spots. Cavalier are in second place with 35 points while Los Perfectos are third.
Defending champions and leaders Frazsiers Whip FC, who have already secured a semi-final spot, are slated to be away to Federal United in a St Catherine derby at Prison Oval while fourth-placed Arnett Gardens are to face hosts Proven Girls at York Sports Complex.
A lot will be at stake in the game at Brooks Park as a win for Cavalier would see them widen the gap between them and the rest of the field. It will also drop Los Perfectos into fourth place if Arnett Gardens pull off a win.
A win for Los Perfectos would, however, see them pull to within two points of Kingston & St Andrew FA team Cavalier, strengthening the hosts’ chances of early qualification to the semi-finals.
Cavalier had won the previous meeting 1-0 and they will hope Shanel Spence — who has already scored 25 goals this season — along with Tatyana Polack and Shadie Shirley — who have combined for 13 goals — will be up to the task.
Los Perfectos, who rebounded from a loss to Frazsiers Whip to beat Real MoBay AFC last week, will be depending on Veniecia Reid and Sashanna Campbell. Both have scored 27 goals between them.
Arnett Gardens are expected to complete the double over Proven Girls after beating them 7-0 in their first-round clash, and depending on the result of the game at Brooks Park they could return to third place in the points table.
Frazsiers Whip will also start favourites to beat Federal United and extend their perfect winning record to 15 games.
UWI Women’s FC will hope to end a four-game losing skid when they host Mile Gully FC at the UWI Mona Bowl. The teams drew 0-0 in the first round, and are separated by one point.
UWI Women’s FC are on 13 points, with Mile Gully — who picked up one point in their last four games while failing to score a goal — are on 12 points.
Last-placed Springers United and Real MoBay AFC will meet in a Montego Bay derby at Granville Community Centre. The teams played out a 1-1 result in the first round.
