Cavalier look to secure JWPL semi-final spot
Cavalier SC could join defending champions Frazsiers Whip FC in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League today if they can beat last-placed Springers United in their second-round game at Alpha Institute (formerly Alpha Boys’ Home) today, starting at 3:30 pm.
Second-placed Cavalier are on 38 points, seven behind the leaders, and can secure their spot in the last four if they can get full points from the St James team, who they had beaten 7-0 in the first round.
Cavalier, who have scored 66 goals so far, the second most in the league, have won their last four games and are unbeaten in their last six games.
Springers United are at the other end of the tables, mired in last place and have conceded a league-high 84 goals in the 14 games played.
Meanwhile, third-placed Arnett Gardens on 32 points from 14 games and fourth-placed Los Perfectos FC with 30 points from 15 games will clash at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Los Perfectos FC are hoping to avenge their first-round 2-1 loss and move back into third place.
Both teams are comfortably ahead of the fifth-placed WiFi United, who are going up against Frazsiers Whip and will be seeking a 16th-straight victory.
Real MoBay AFC are hoping for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they host Federal United at Jarrett Park after their come-from-behind win over Springers United last weekend.
Real MoBay, who had beaten Federal United in the first round, has a real chance of moving up to the top half of the tables for the first time all season, depending on the result between Mile Gully FC and Proven Girls at Mile Gully Community Centre.
Mile Gully are in sixth place on 15 points and are hoping to beat Proven Girls for the second time this season.
