Driver unhurt after petrol truck blaze
The driver of a petrol truck escaped injury on Monday after the unit burst into flames on Spanish Town Road in the vicinity of Riverton City dump.
Thirty-seven firefighters responded to the massive blaze, which spread to the Agri World Farm Store on the road. There were no reports of injuries to people in the vicinity of the blaze. Acting Fire Commissioner Leroy Orr said a firefighter also sustained a minor injury.
Orr said the Fire Brigade received a call about the blaze “at approximately 11:58 am”.
“We quickly responded with units from Trench Town, Half-Way Tree and York Park. When we got on the scene, we saw the tanker on fire, and we quickly got into operation, and we were able to contain and eventually extinguish the fire,” he said.
“We haven’t established what has caused the fire yet. Investigations will be done at a later date to establish that information,” he told the
Jamaica Observer.
