Roman reigns supreme with five winners at Caymanas Park
RADDESH Roman’s mastery of the saddle was on full display on Saturday as the champion rider rode an incredible five winners on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The pièce de résistance was his dominating performance aboard Desert of Malibu in the $1.4-million Clovis Metcalfe Trophy.
With a keen eye for pace and position, Roman expertly navigated Desert of Malibu through the field, drawing clear in the final stretch to win by a commanding eight and a quarter lengths in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m). The Gary Subratie-trained Desert of Malibu stopped the clock in 1:32.3 (23.4 x 46.3 x 1:11.4 x 1:25.1). Finishing second was Run Julie Run (Reyan Lewis) while Divine Force (Ian Spence) finished third.
Roman’s other winners were Sir John in the opening event for trainer Peter-John Parsard, Supernatural Power in the second race for trainer Philip Feanny, Nuclear Jet in the third race for trainer Enos Brown, and Strike Smart in the fourth race for trainer Howard Bailey.
Raddesh Roman’s dominance in the jockeys’ standings seemed almost insurmountable as he took his tally to 66 winners — a staggering 37 wins ahead of Shane Ellis who trailed behind with 29 winners. Roman’s impressive performance continued to make waves in the racing world, leaving fans and competitors in awe of his exceptional talent and skill.
Racing continues on Sunday with the 99th running of the $4.5-million Jamaica St Leger, the second jewel in the Triple Crown series. Burning Hedge and Sensational Soul are leading contenders.
