Jamaica Post suspends parcels and packets to the USA

KINGSTON, Jamaica —Jamaica Post says it has suspended parcels and packets to the United States of America (USA) until further notice.

The postal service made the announcement in a media release Monday evening.

It said the last outbound flight to the USA for dispatch of parcels and packets (letters containing merchandise) will depart on Thursday, August 28.

This means that Tuesday will be the final day to post parcels and packets to the USA at all Jamaica Post locations.

Jamaica Post says the move follows the issuance of executive order (EO) 14324 by the United States, which suspends duty-free de minimis treatment for all countries effective August 29.

It further says an official notification of this change was received today and affects parcels from all countries, not just Jamaica.

Meanwhile, the postal service says it is actively engaging its partners to address the matter and will provide further updates as additional information becomes available.
