‘Powerful’ women grace the stage for charity
On Sunday October 7, 2001, curious eyes will zoom in on what may very well turn out to be the concert of the year, when a number of Jamaica’s most influential women perform at the Mustard Seed Communities’ charity concert at Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus, beginning at 4 pm.
“Powerful Women Perform for Charity” will feature RJR Radio Talk Show Host, the “substantial” Barbara Gloudon, whom many persons turn to for advice about any and everything; Dahlia Harris, rising actress, vivacious radio and television personality; Ambassador Madge Barrett, director of protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, one whose job would mislead us to think that the woman herself was as linear as her role; and Eleanor Jones, executive director of Environmental Solutions, who, maybe not be deviating too far from her area of expertise, is playing her part in providing clean entertainment for a wholesome, family-friendly environment.
Taking timeout from the probing and investigative nature of her work, Carol Francis, broadcast journalist, TVJ, will also perform, providing a “Ray of Hope” for the beneficiaries of the concert. Chantal Hylton-Tonnes, sales and marketing executive and Angella Patterson, General Manager, both of CVM Television will put aside their responsibilities behind the scenes and take to the stage, where they will be in the spotlight.
Beverley Anderson-Manley, usually raising eyebrows with her direct and to the point questions as co-host of the Breakfast Club on Hot 102, will also perform for charity, this time, no doubt, raising the roof. Olivia “Babsy” Grange, prominent member of the Jamaica Labour Party; Senator Maxine Henry-Wilson, of the government of Jamaica, the People’s National Party (PNP) and Senator Aloun Assamba Ndombet, Managing Director of the City of Kingston Co-operative Credit Union (COK) and prominent member of the PNP have all set aside political agendas to participate in an evening of excellence…a different agenda, merely outlining the entertainment line-up.
Also on the line-up are managing director of PRO Communications and a sponsor of the event, Jean Lowrie-Chin; Paediatrician, Dr Barbara Noel; CEO of Caymanas Track Limited, Roslyn Campbell; vice president, Sigma Management Systems, Sandra Shirley; CEO of Management Institute for National Development (MIND), Maria Jones; IRIE FM Radio Broadcaster Deon Mattis; CEO of Jamaica Bureau of Women’s Affairs, Dr Glenda Simms; director, UTECH Cultural Centre, Pat Ramsay; Tourism Director, Jamaica Tourist Board, Fay Pickersgill; managing director, Boulevard Motors, Nevine Heaven; Lorrene Walker and Glynis E Salmon.
Joan Andrea Hutchinson, will emcee the concert and Fab Five will back performances. The event is sponsored by COK, Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus, Edwin Charley (Jamaica) Limited, and PRO Communications.
