10 Questions for Anthony Cruz
Too many of us complain that there’s are no more good men, but, it turns out, they are everywhere, in the plazas, by the bus stop, on the radio… take our interview subject this week, singer/songwriter/producer Anthony Cruz. He’s young, very good looking, he’s got hits on the radio, his new album is about to drop, and he doesn’t have anyone to spend Valentine’s Day with yet. In fact, he’s looking for a date to the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival this weekend…
1. Tell us something we don’t know about you…
I have five sisters. I’m the only boy. I’m romantic.
2. Romantic… Valentine’s day is coming up soon, what are you planning?
Nothing yet. I don’t know yet. Last year I spent Valentine’s Day by myself… Now I’m dating, but I don’t even know where I’ll be on Valentine’s Day.
3. Really? So you’re looking for a woman?
I wouldn’t say I’m looking, but of course I want to settle down, get married. And I want a sweet wife too! You have to be careful nowadays, some girls out there woah! You have to wait for a good, genuine woman. I know one’s out there for me.
4. What do you look for in a woman?
The way she carries herself. The way she dresses, the way she smells, the way she talks… intelligence.
5. What’s your greatest fault/flaw?
I’m moody. Sometimes, I’m real quiet, I don’t talk to anyone for long periods, sometimes a whole day, and some people take it wrong. But I like being by myself a lot. That’s when I get to think.
6. And your greatest strength?7. If you weren’t doing music, what would you be doing?
My kindness. My personality. I give a lot to people, I like to smile, y’know, keep the place positive. If I had Jamaica to run, I’d try my best to help people in the ghetto. I’m not from the ghetto, but I’ve been there, and believe me, those are the people who need help. Last year after one of the storms, a couple of us went to ‘Back To’ to give some assistance, to give flour, sugar y’know, basic food items, and those people really have it bad. That really touched me, ’cause they had nothing. People have it hard in the ghetto, old people, women, children… all big man who don’t eat for days. I’d try to help the unfortunate.
I can do lots of things. I can draw, so I could probably study to be an architect. My father used to own a garage, and so growing up I learnt a bit about cars…
Seriously though, Music IS life, so when you’re in the music business you have to give your life to it. If you’re not onstage, you’re in studio, and when you’re not, for me, it’s all about family. I try to spend time with my daughter, her name is Shanice, she’ll be 5 in July.
8. Who’s your favourite
singer of all time?
Al Green.
9. So you’ll be at ‘Jazz’ this weekend…
How you mean! Of course I want to go. But I haven’t found a date yet.
10. Really. So if anyone calls allwoman trying to contact you to take you on a date to Jazz, what should we tell them?
Email me. Seriously, go to www.anthonycruzmusic.com and shoot me an email.
