My crazy mother-in-law
JAZMINE from Mandeville tells all woman the story of her mother-in-law, who feigned being sick so she could get her son to have her move in with the newly-wed couple.
On moving in, she immediately started rearranging the house, reverted to making her son breakfast and lunch to take to work, and then shock of all shocks, once suggested that the couple tone down their activities in the bedrooom, because she couldn’t pray with all the noise.
We all have them, whether the mom-in-law is an angel, or a fire- breathing lady dragon hell bent on protecting her offspring at all costs, once we get involved in a serious relationship, they become part of our lives. For a lucky few, the mothers-in-law are true God-sends, complementing the family; for others, they’re a constant thorn in the side.
Last week we asked for your stories, and here’s what you said.
Here’s a story for you. My fiancée’s mother and her look alike – her mother’s not that old because she had her as a teenager. I didn’t know though that they also competed for men, until the mother approached me while we were visiting her house.
While my fiancée went next door to get some ice, the mother came out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, licked her lips and told me that if I ever considered it, she was much more of a woman than her daughter. I never told my fiancée and we don’t visit her mother quite as often as we used to. -ST
This is about my ex-husband, God forbid I should have stayed married to him after this experience! I moved in with him and his mother after we got married, and I soon realised that they had some sort of weird clique going on. I’d come home from work and see them labrishing, and then she would come to me with the ‘how could you’ questions. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when she came to me, after one of their discussions and asked (and I’m dead serious here), “How could you fall asleep last night in the middle of romance with Ricky?” I just left after that. It was just too much.

My wife’s and her mother are very close, and when I married her, I had to get used to them sharing a lot of things, even though sometimes it makes me uncomfortable. But her mother is a policewoman and what she says goes. One day her mother called and chastised me on the telephone. “My daughter will not let you tie her to any bedposts,” she screamed. “From now on it’s regular sex, or she leaves.”
What could I do but obey?

The annoying thing about my mother-in-law is that she is always in my business. When my husband and I visit her home in the States, she says we have to sleep in separate rooms, and we can’t even hug or kiss when she’s around. Then, when we’re in Jamaica, she calls every week to check to see what I’ve bought, if I’ve cleaned the bathroom properly and constantly asks my husband if he’s happy with me.

My mother-in-law is actually very nice. She welcomed me immediately into the family, and she loves me and the children I’ve had with her son.

My mother-in-law said that my husband, kids and I could move in with her while we saved to buy a house of our own. A week into our stay there, she said that I had to sleep in the room with my daughter, because the constant creaking of the bedsprings in our room was sending her blood pressure up too much.

His female friends
She’s a guy’s girl, that woman your boyfriend says is just a friend, the one he confides in, hangs out with, the one you’re still a bit iffy about.
You don’t want to seem jealous, but heck, she’s a girl after all, and he’s just an easily tempted guy. So tell us. How have you dealt with your guy’s female friends? Have you had a bad experience with a girl he claimed was just a friend? Or are you still trying to get this third wheel out of your life? Email us at allwomanjaobs@yahoo.com
