VOWS: A love so beautiful
Dino Hinds, vice-president of markets and trading at Mayberry Investments Limited, wed Tamar Webley, banking officer at First Global Bank, on July 21, 2012. Vows shares their journey to the altar.
How They Met
Dino and Tamar first met back in 2005, while both students at the University of the West Indies. “We were friends with Carl Anderson during our years at the University of the West Indies. One day, it so happened we all ran into each other and he introduced us,” Dino tells Vows. After their initial meeting, the two developed a friendship and Dino later asked Tamar out on a date. She, however, refused his request. The two maintained a fouryear friendship before Tamar finally accepted Dino’s invitation in 2009. They dated for three years, developing a mutual appreciation and love for each other. Their love grew and so Dino planned to pop the big question over dinner on Valentine’s Day. “I bought the ring a month before Valentine’s Day, giving myself time to plan exactly how I would propose,” Dino shares. But while taking Tamar back to work after their Valentine’s Day lunch, Dino pulled off the road and popped the question. Taken by surprise, Tamar’s eyes filled up with tears, and she answered, “Yes”.
The Wedding
The couple tied the knot inside the University Chapel on the University of the West Indies, Mona campus. Wedding planner Barbara Göttgens, director of Burnt Sienna, was at the helm for the décor and floral treatments, creating a fairy tale-themed arrangement of white clavelas, white anastasia mums, white dendrobiums and white roses accented by blue anastasia mums and silver-sprayed jade leaves. The ceremony began with the entrance of the bridal party to the strains of Canon In D by organist Vivian Crawford. The bridesmaids were outfitted in royal blue gowns, clutching bouquets of green dianthus balls, red roses and acrylic ice branches wrapped with blue satin ribbon; while the groomsmen were dapperly clad in suits by Spokes Apparel.
Tamar followed shortly after, draped in a white Cinderellainspired gown created by Bonny Bridal. Clutching a hand-tied bouquet of white, scented mini roses, burgundy cymbidium orchids, hypericum berries, Italian ruscus, and sapphire-coloured accents wrapped with a jewelled ribbon, she swanned up the aisle on the arms of her stepfather Roy Baker. Soon enough, she was beside her anxious groom, who looked debonair in a tailored Spokes Apparel suit. Her hair was beautifully swept back by Dave Long, and her make-up the flawless work of Factory 79. The Reverend Marva Cassells, guided the couple through the ceremony. Upon the exchange of their vows, Dino and Tamar performed the unity candle ceremony, representing the covenant they made before God, joining their two families together.
The reception
The reception followed inside the Gold Room at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge. The décor featured water-filled vases with blue floral lights accentuated by curly branches wired with orchids. Guests enjoyed a four-course meal to the soothing selections from DJ Mark. Post-dinner, guests were treated to a performance by 2008 Digicel Rising Stars winner Camille Davis. The couple then cut their threetier Claudette Campbell-created traditional fruitcake ahead of their first dance to a medley of songs — I Wanna Take Forever Tonight by Peter Cetera and Crystal Bernard; The Time of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes; and Love You Enuh by Vybz Kartel. Guests then made their way to the dance floor to celebrate with the newly-weds. The couple honeymooned at Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort and Offshore Island, Nassau, for five nights.
