Remember: Be safe this Christmas
DECEMBER is a busy time on the roads. People rush around as they do their last-minute shopping for gifts and treats, people drink more, and criminals take advantage of the general hustle and bustle.
Below are some holiday safety tips to remember when making preparations for the Christmas season.
1. Practise road safety
Ensure that you always wear a seat belt and that your child has a safety seat. Once the child has outgrown the safety seat, ensure that he/she remains in the back seat and that the seat belt is kept fastened.
2. Practise fire drills with your children
During this time the kitchen in many homes is fully utilised. It is also likely that your children may offer to help. Make sure to go through safety drills in case something burns or there is a stove fire.
3. Unplug and turn off all decorations when leaving home or going to sleep
Not only are you conserving energy, but you may be preventing a fire. Candles can start fires and so can electrical decorations.
4. Don’t overload your electrical outlets
While you may have decorations and Christmas lights up, ensure you don’t overload your power supply, as overload and faulty wires are common causes of fires.
5. Be on the lookout for criminals
This is especially important for women and children, as hoodlums tend to target them first.
HAVE A SAFE CHRISTMAS!
