From Khlo’s Khloset

New mum Shavelle Mayler has a lot to smile about this Valentine’s, and it’s not just at her beautiful six-month old daughter! Her online fashion portal Khlo’s Khloset is up and running, and for the young lady from Westmoreland who moved to Mandeville to pursue a degree in Management Studies at Northern Caribbean University, it’s another box to check off.

“My mum used to sew as a hobby,” shared Mayler with

AWF. Those perfectly-fitted matching outfits for Mayler and her two sisters made her fully appreciative of the time spent on making clothes. “Whenever my mum took a break or completed a project, my eldest sister and I would collect scraps and make clothes for our dolls. Closer studies exposed us to more skills and soon we were designing and making our own clothes,” she said.

But disaster struck the budding designer. “ My mum allowed me to design two outfits for my sister which I had a seamstress make… alas, she did not fully grasp my vision and made two of the most horrible outfits that my mum insisted we wear to church. Let’s just say that we definitely stood out and learnt a valuable lesson! I still do sketches now and again, as one of my ultimate goals is to have a line for myself,” Mayler informed.

Until then, her one-month-old fashion portal targeted at new mothers and university students is gaining traction. “Being a new mum, I understand the strenuous task of visiting shops, not just for myself but also for my daughter, and as a past university student [I know] our pockets cannot always stretch for a new outfit. Khlo’s Khloset has made it easy, with the click of a button from the comfort of your home, once you have access to the Internet, at reasonable prices. There is no hassle, wait time or shipping cost”.

Indeed Mayler, whose wish this Valentine’s Day is for women “to dress to impress”, believes that because online stores do not carry high overhead costs, these savings can be passed on to the consumer. Also, there’s more time to spend going through the numerous selections.
