The thin line between privacy and secrecy
Privacy is best defined as a state in which one desires not to be disturbed by other people. Secrecy, on the other hand, is best defined as the action of keeping something hidden, many times with deceitful intent.
The two concepts are often confused and used misleadingly in intimate relationships, and below several people tell what both concepts mean to them.
Markie:
Privacy is not touching my cellphone, and secrecy is when my phone is ringing but I hide it. Note the difference!
BJ:
Privacy and secrecy are two different things, but to be honest, my woman should not have any secrets and nothing should be private when she’s in a relationship with me. I don’t want any surprises.
Kayla:
I think couples need to respect each other, and that’s the bottom line. I don’t hide things from my man but I wouldn’t want any man breathing down my neck every day. Everyone needs their privacy.
Miguel:
They are the same thing to me. When you’re serious and in an adult relationship nothing is private and no secrets must be kept.
