Stop the tresses: Headbands are back
Nineties hair accessories have made a stylish comeback. Yes, we’ve noticed them on the runways in Milan, New York, and Paris. Recently, American model Bella Hadid paired a headband from Alexander Wang with a Dior patchwork denim co-ord converting it from runway to street style. We here on The Rock are not removed from the international fashion scene, and leading the charge locally is Kadine Ramsay of Kadii Pinks Designs.
Ramsay recalls designing at an earlier age, initially creating pieces for display at her preparatory school’s open house. While in high school the designer — out of necessity — stitched together her first headband. “I wanted to go natural so I did the big chop and needed hair accessories,” she shared with All Woman Fashion (AWF). “Unable to find any to my liking I started experimenting and made headbands that suited my natural hair needs.”
She became her best advertisement, as, shortly thereafter, demand grew for her pieces.
The self-taught designer is quick to advise others to create opportunities rather than waiting for their arrival. “I have built relationships with my clients instead of waiting on persons to reach out to my business,” she explained.
Ramsay has expanded her scope to include silk bonnets and satin scrunchies, affording women more ways to stay stylish while protecting their hair.
