Leigh – An’s Handcrafted Jewellery
The adage says a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle, and Brianna Johnson, owner and jewellery designer/maker for Leigh-An Jewelry, is testament to this.
Johnson, a young entrepreneur, has found success in jewellery making and is now sharing her skill set with those eager to learn. “I’ve started teaching a beginner’s wire-wrapping class where I demonstrate the step-by-step techniques used in my basic designs,” Johnson told All Woman Fashion (AWF).
Johnson’s matriculation to instructor came a few years after completing her own studies. “While I was attending St Andrew High School for Girls, I took a beginner’s wire-wrapping course at Sanaa Studios, just for fun… then I put it (jewellery making) aside until after university,” she said. Once she graduated from the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica, Johnson plied her trade in the hospitality industry until her older sister Brittany invited her to join the entrepreneurial path.
“I began making jewellery pieces at home and my sister (Brittany Johnson, Miakalani Swim), who at the time was already an entrepreneur, loved the first piece that I made, took it and never gave it back. She helped me set up my Instagram page that day,” she told AWF.
Now Leigh-an Jewelry sells semi-precious stones and provides custom orders for clients. “My customers can give me an idea of what material, stone and/or design they want, if they have a picture or example…or if they would like me to match it with something that they already have; I do my best to accommodate them,” she explained. Johnson says she has a few standard designs and admits that the Treble Clef earrings are best-sellers.
Leigh-An Jewelry makes gender-neutral designs that are luxe, lightweight and long-lasting. Johnson’s copper designs are one-of-a-kind as the metal is never manipulated the same way twice. With many designs spawned from improvisation, customers are sure to own a piece they will treasure forever.
